Day 24 - 08/26/22 - Bar Harbor, Maine

Our day in Bar Harbor started out with a mandatory US Border Immigration inspection with a face to passport comparison.  This went fairly fast despite a line that stretched half the length of the ship. We then boarded a large local tender that whisked us to shore.  The Zaandam was hovering nearby, but they were using their own tenders.

To get oriented, we took a $20 trolley tour that was really valuable.  Bar Harbor was once the playground of the rich and famous like Rockefeller, Chase, Guggenheim, and the like.  They all built "cottages" which are really mansions.  Nowadays those that survived are boutique lodging or other businesses.  Other smaller houses built in later times filled in the gaps and now it's a "middle class" area per our guides. We then walked Main Street in a light rain before stopping for a lobster roll lunch.  It was yummy, but I liked the Halifax version better. We then walked some more until our 3:15 bus excursion to see Acadia National Park departed.

The 2 hour bus tour was fine with constant narration; but it was so foggy  we couldn't see much. We did reach the summit of Cadillac Mountain which is the highest point on the Eastern seaboard.  We got back to the dock and took the last tender (5:30pm) to the ship.  We were 4th & 5th from the end to re-scan back on the ship. Our goal is to be the last ones scanned on the ship.

With no tenders to retrieve we were quickly underway.  The Zaandam had already departed.  I transferred pictures from my large Nikon camera to my iPhone and watched the sail away up in the Crow's Nest.

Step One Dance Company and Meaghan and Gabe from Billboard Onboard along with Indigo from BBKing did their final 7:30pm show "Off the Charts." It was a powerhouse show and we returned for the 9:30pm performance after squeezing in a Caneletto dinner.  I wonder if the Gabe & Meaghan duo realize just how good they are. Gabe has played Jerry Lee Lewis in the stage play Million Dollar Quartet, and it shows!

We're all packed and will do an expedited departure tomorrow in Boston to catch an 11:30am flight home.  It's been a great trip and I'll do a wrap up once we get home.
