Day 10 - 08/12/22 - Isafjördur, Iceland

I'm glad I resolved the Costco Travel payment issue yesterday as we lost the ship's internet connectivity overnight and it continued all day and evening.  I suspect it has something to do with us being around the Arctic Circle.  Fortunately our T-Mobile free data works in Iceland and we had excellent connectivity all day and well into our sail away.

We woke up this morning, turned on the TV and discovered we were almost at our mooring point in the calm waters of the bay at Isafjödur, Iceland today.  It was chilly and we had a few sprinkles late morning. After tendering in,  we visited the local TI office and picked up a handy booklet (the Prinsendam was on the cover!) that suggested 3 walking tours.

We selected the longest one which was 4km (blue line).  It took us around the inner harbor and up into a residential neighborhood which led to great views of the fjord and bay where the Nieuw Statendam was anchored in calm water.  From there we dropped back down to sea level and walked along the sea wall before wandering throughout the downtown area.  US$ aren't widely accepted so we used an ATM to obtain some local currency.  We also shopped at the local grocery store, Netto, where we purchased Coke Zero, bread, meat & cheese for a picnic lunch which we ate on the steps of the theatre. On the walk back to the ship we visited the Westfjords Maritime and Heritage Museum where we watched a movie on the classic fishing method (hard & dangerous work).  We also checked out a thrift store where Angela found a cute plush zippered shirt to supplement her warm weather packed clothing and we also bought a berry picker at a Ace type hardware store.

Back on the ship, we procured front row seats in the Crows Nest to watch the sail away. Our route to the next port will take us around a National Park and the sail in tomorrow will be down a long fjord. After a quick Lido dinner we ended up back in the Crows Nest watching the scenery instead of watching the 7:30pm BBC II in concert which we have seen multiple times previously. We did end up watching the 9:30 performance in a sparsely attended theater.  On the way back to our stateroom I checked in at the front desk to see if a small bag containing two camera batteries had been turned in.  They went missing the evening of our cruising Prince Christian Sound.

Tomorrow is looking to be a terrific day of touring on a private excursion. There might be a waterfall or thermal bath involved.  Stay tuned.
